Vacances Vertes les Belles

87380 St Germain Les Belles

Nearest town: Limoges

Well-equipped and tastefully decorated, spacious village house, 30 minutes south of Limoges in the pretty village of St Germain les Belles. Accommodating up to 14 people in 6 bedrooms, 5 with private bathrooms. A short walk to village shops, restaurants and sandy swimming lake beach. Gorgeous countryside views from the large private garden and dining terrace. Ground-floor wheelchair access and free wifi internet connection.

We can welcome a maximum of 14 people in 6 bedrooms with 5 private, ensuite bathrooms. For guests who use a wheelchair, we have a ground-floor accessible bedroom and bathroom.

All of our 13 beds are singles (or we can put them together as doubles), making sleeping arrangements really easy for mixed groups of walkers, cyclists, families....

There is a large but cosy lounge, with 2 convertible double sofa beds, collection of reading material, satellite TV, free wifi internet connection, DVD player and DVD library. There is also a wood-burning stove for those chilly evenings.

Adjoining the lounge, is the large kitchen. We love this big, open-plan space... There is a huge kitchen table / benches and the kitchen offers you everything you might find in your own house.. Dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffee maker, big cooker, toaster, loads of tasteful white crockery...

Although the house is in the heart of the village, you will have the best of both worlds, as once you step out of the back door, the peaceful views of open countryside really make you feel like you are in a more remote spot.

The attractive terrace (with barbecue) is a wonderful location for a relaxing drink or meal on a warm summer's evening. There are reclining seats, 2 large dining tables / benches and parasol if you need some more shade. The terrace leads out onto the large, private and family-friendly garden lawn and is a great spot for watching wild birds!

All linen, towels, electricity, wood for the stove and heating are included in the price of the rental - every room has central heating and double-glazing, making this a fantastic holiday destination in winter too!

Depending on the season, we enjoy providing free organic vegetables and free-range eggs from our own small-holding, just up the road. We can also arrange tasty home-cooked meals to be delivered right to your doorstep – just ask for more details. This convenient service is really appreciated by families with young children.

Wherever you are in Limousin, you will not be far from a lake. You can swim in most of them in summer and they often have a sandy beach. With 45 km of shore-line, Vassivière Lake (le Lac de Vassivière) is one of Europe's largest man-made lakes and is only a picturesque 40 minute drive away. There are loads of things to see and do with huge networks of walking and cycling routes, horse-riding centres, water-sports, such as wind-surfing, water-skiing and boating, fishing and of course, swimming! The edge of the lake is dotted with picturesque villages, many with excellent restaurants and snack bars.

Attractions

All of our guests comment on just how convenient the location of the house is! Saint Germain les Belles is a large, yet peaceful village and is surrounded by gentle, rolling countryside. It boasts many facilities and attractions:

The village swimming lake and sandy beach is just a ten minute walk away, through meandering lanes. During the summer months (June-September) and if you are holidaying with children, it provides fantastic (and free!) entertainment. The water is warm enough for a swim or a paddle, you can hire pedaloes and the beach is usually busy with local children or families from the adjacent campsite. There is also a snack bar selling simple meals, drinks and ice creams. During the weekend (and on some week days), the bar hosts special music nights with bands, singing and dancing!

There are 2 bar / restaurants, 'Chez Kurko' and 'Le Petit Moulin'. Both can be reached on foot within several minutes - this solves the problem of who is going to drive after a night out! There is also a boulangerie, an excellent butchers and two other grocery shops, selling fine Limousin produce and excellent cheese and vegetables. Other shops and services in the village itself include a pharmacy, a cash point, a tourist office, a petrol station and a SNCF rail station with daily trains to Limoges and Brive.

The walk to the lake takes you through pretty winding streets, past beautiful houses and the 14th century medieval church (you can take a look inside!). You can hire a recorded guided walk, with earphones from the tourist office - it's a really interesting way to discover more about the history of the village.

30 minutes to the north, is the attractive 'capital' city of Limousin, Limoges. It is famous for its porcelain and there are many outlet shops, or smaller boutiques where you can buy pieces to suit all tastes and pockets. We love Limoges for its interesting and individual shops - many 'chain stores' are kept out of the city centre (except for the St Martial Centre), making for a really interesting shopping experience! You can also enjoy antique markets, the covered food market, medieval churches and our personal favourite - the ancient carousel at Place de la République - read the note on the door to check out the opening times!

Other lovely historical towns and villages to visit include:

Pompadour (La Cité du Cheval) and its frequent equestrian events and château; Uzerche on the stunning Vézère River; Segur le château, one of the most beautiful villages in France; St Yriex la Perche, with its interesting shops, historic buildings and markets; St Leonard de Noblat, a stunning medieval town, surrounded by panoramic views; the lovely château at Coussac Bonneval...

For the outdoor enthusiast and those of you who enjoy countryside rambling, there are numerous activities in the surrounding region. We can tell you all about our favourite walks, beauty spots and places to watch birds. If you enjoy cycling holidays, bicycle hire is available within the village and there are many local routes through quiet country villages.
