Ideally placed in the heart of the Cathar country near the medieval town of Mirepoix, the Auberge du Balestié is owned and run by an English family who warmly welcome you to this peaceful corner of Ariège just 35 kms from Carcassonne. In the perfect peace and quiet of the countryside, you'll have an enjoyable stay whether relaxing by Balestié lake or taking advantage of the many outdoor activities available nearby. From the auberge you'll admire the magnificent view of the Pyrenees, of the château of Montségur and of the lake and horses in the meadow opposite.

All rooms have ensuite facilities and we also have a family room.

The restaurant overlooks a beautiful lake with a small island which is home to egrets and herons. We have 40 house martins nests an it is a real pleasure to watch the aerial acrobatics of these graceful birds from April – September.

In the summer, freshly baked continental breakfast is served in our breakfast room or on the terrace overlooking the lake. In our restaurant you can enjoy such regional specialities as confit or magret de canard or cassoulet. Other menus might include steak with pepper or blue cheese sauce, salmon with creamy leak sauce, cod stuffed with mushroom paté, or roulade of chicken with asparagus. We can also provide mouthwatering vegetarian dishes by reservation.

The GR7 walking trail passes right alongside the auberge; it's also a variant of the Way of Saint James and leads to St Jean-de-Pied de Port. All around the auberge there are many other circuits for walking, mountain biking or horseriding.
